How do ERP & Earned Value fit together?
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, like SAP, have various modules that come into play with Earned Value. With SAP, the Project Systems module integrates data from other modules, such as Human Resources (HR), Material Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), or Plant Maintenance (PM). Each Project has a Project Definition with a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Networks, Activities, & other objects used for integrating cost & schedule data.
SAP's PS module is a powerful, though complex, tool for more than just Earned Value Management. It includes robust scheduling, resource management, actual labor / cost collection, production, & material management capabilities.
